Saint Pierre de Frugie is a small, pretty medieval village. There is a lovely lake for fishing with picnic tables and also a play area for children. Beside the lake is a visitor centre full of information on local activities including the 200 kilometres of country trails which are great for mountain biking or walking.
A 3 minute drive away is an area full of activities for children of all ages. “Acrobois” is basically a daring adventure climb through the trees that lasts for the whole afternoon. There are different levels so all ages from 5 years old upwards can have a go – with the toughest climb for the daredevils ending in a slide down over a lake! It is great fun for all. Here there is also a small beach onto the lovely lake which is perfect for swimming, it has a toddler paddle area. There is also volleyball, tennis, boules, crazy golf, fishing and picnic areas.
Close by there are also lots of other activities including horse riding, pony and donkey treks. You can spend a day canoeing on a lovely river where you can stop for picnics. It is an activity suitable for all the family as 2 person canoes are available. There is karting for those looking for an adrenalin rush – it a proper international standard karting track with three different levels of karts available; quadbiking is available locally too. There are two golf courses nearby at Limoges and Perigeuex. The area is great for cycling as there are small nature trails throughout the country side – there are bikes for hire at La Coquille.
Places of interest
There are also lots of lovely places to visit. There are two really nice cities a 40 minute drive away – Limoges, which is home of porcelain and Perigeuex, a stunning city full of narrow cobblestone street with an abundance of lovely shops and boutiques.
Brantome, described as the Venice of the Dordogne is a truly lovely town, surrounded by water. It has a fabulous market every Friday and lots of cafes and restaurants perfect for people watching in the sunshine! There are numerous stunning chateaux in the region, including Hautefort and Jumilhac Le Grand both of which offer excellent guided tours. For wine lovers Bergerac is a 90 minute drive away and is a great place to sample and perhaps purchase some delicious local wines at very reasonable prices.
Bars, cafes and restaurants
In the village itself is a nice bar within easy walking distance of the houses, perfect for drinks and ice-creams on the flower filled terrace. There is a lovelyrestaurant serving delicious home cooked meals also within walking distance. Close by is a creperie which also sells farm produce. In La Coquille there is a very nice Pizzeria and a superb restaurant at Hotel des Voyageurs, where delicious menus full of regional specialities are served in their fabulous dining room or on the terrace overlooking the pool and surrounding countryside. There are lots of other cafes and restaurants a short drive away.
Practicalities - La Coquille
A five minute drive away or a pleasant cycle is La Coquille a small market town located on the N21. There is everything here that you could need including a well stocked supermarket, a bakery, patisserie, two chemists, a bank, several doctors, two butchers, a post office and there is a small market every Thursday morning. There are numerous other supermarkets a short drive away in Thiviers and Chalus.
